Students learned about Métis culture through dot painting. They learned about the spirit beads and perhaps if you look closely enough, you can spot them in these samples of some wonderful work!
Grade 7 students at Our Lady of Good Counsel are learning to code--inspired by the inspirational story of local Mohawk Code Talker (late) Levi Oakes. This work is being done to honour the contributions of Indigenous Veterans. Indigenous Veterans Day is commemorated every year in Canada on November 8th.![]()

A grade 1 student teacher Peter Stranberg, arranged a birch bark canoe presentation for our students today (outdoors of course). Students enjoyed the wonderful presentation by Mr Stranberg, along with Biologist Mark Read! Mr Stranberg worked with Mr Read at Murphy’s Point Provincial Park and both were there when Chuck Commanda built the canoe in 2018. Mr Commanda is a knowledge keeper who has supported Indigenous learning in our school in the past. Miigwech to all!
